Local Protocol -- Skills Training & Evaluation
The Local Protocol Skills Training & Evaluation session is designed for certified EMTs and First Responders in the Central Shenandoah EMS (CSEMS) Council region who are affiliated with an EMS agency and wish to perform specific local protocols that differ from the 1994 release of the Emergency Medical Technician-Basic: National Standard Curriculum and the 1995 release of the First Responder: National Standard Curriculum.  The goal of the program is to have adequately trained BLS providers who can provide advanced interventions for critical patients.

The Local Protocol Course is a blended-learning class, meaning the first half of the program is completed online using Edu-Net (the CSEMS Council learning management system) and covers the material printed in the program manual.  Once the online part of the class is completed, the students complete the second part of the program by attending an instructor-led skills training and examination session. Course completion is awarded to participants who complete both parts of the course satisfactorily.

The advantage of blended learning is that the online part of the course can be completed at your own pace and at a time and location that is convenient for the student.  There are written exams throughout the online program and the student must achieve a score of at least 80% on each before being allowed to move on to the next section.

At the conclusion of the online part, the student will print a certificate of completion.  This certificate must be brought with the student when they attend the skills training and evaluation session.  If there is no completion certificate, there can be no skills evaluation.  Skills training and evaluation sessions are conducted, without charge, at the office of Emergency Prep located at 3221 Peoples Drive, Suite 120 in Harrisonburg.  While there is no fee for the skills session, pre-registration is required and class size is limited to 6 students for each session.
