BLAST! - Babysitter Lessons and Safety Training (ECSI) 
The BLAST (ECSI) course is designed for young adults ages 10-16 who are potential babysitters, their parents and for parents who are considering hiring a babysitter.  The BLAST! program is exciting and interactive, providing training in pediatric first aid, household safety and the fundamentals of childcare.  The BLAST! program can prepare students to interview for a babysitting job, select safe and suitable games and activities, prevent accidents, perform first aid, and begin babysitting safely and competently.  For more comprehensive training, this course may be combined with Child and Infant CPR.  Course fees include a full color manual and certification card.  Course content includes:
BLAST!: 
w   Developmental stages of children
w   Age appropriate activities
w   Safety and injury prevention practices
w   Childcare basics (feeding, diapering, burping)
w   Recognizing emergencies
w   Caring for children with an illness or injury
w   Preparing a first aid kit and supplies
w   Games and songs for children
 
BLAST! First Aid:
w
   Bleeding and Shock
w   Bone, Joint, and Muscle Injuries
w   Breathing Difficulty
w   Burns
w   Diabetic Emergencies
w   Diarrhea
w   Dog Bite
w   Electrocution
w   Eye Injuries
w   Fever
w   Head Injuries
w   Insect Stings
w   Nosebleed
w   Poisoning
w   Seizures/Convulsions
w   Tooth Knocked Out
w   Vomiting
    
CPR:
w   Child and Infant CPR (newborn to age 8)
w   Child and Infant rescue breathing
w   Procedures for relief of choking   
w
   Proper use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  
Course Length: BLAST! with Child and Infant CPR 5.5 - 6.5 hours
BLAST! without CPR 3.5 - 4.5 hours
